Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke today with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine and Canada’s continued support for the country amid Russia’s war of aggression.

During the call, Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to providing military, financial, humanitarian, and other forms of assistance to Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression. The two leaders also addressed the recent crash of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight J2-8243, agreeing on the importance of a transparent and independent investigation into the cause of the incident.

The Prime Minister emphasized the continued necessity of global support for Ukraine’s peace and freedom as Canada prepares to take on the G7 Presidency in January 2025. Both leaders stressed the need for sustained sanctions against Russia in response to its actions.

Prime Minister Trudeau and President Zelenskyy agreed to remain in close contact throughout the new year to continue coordinating their efforts.
