The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a Retail Robbery investigation.
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at approximately 3:37 a.m., police responded to a Damage Just Occurred call in the Queen Street West and Lansdowne Avenue area.
It is alleged that:
- a lone male suspect approached a convenience store wearing a mask to disguise his identity and carrying a crowbar
- he smashed the glass door with the crowbar and entered the premise
- he confronted the employee and made a demand for cash
- he took a quantity of cash and lottery tickets before fleeing the area
- he left the crowbar inside the store
Members of the Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation and were able to identify the suspect. On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, members of the Hold Up Squad, with the assistance of officers from 11 Division Primary Response Unit and Major Crime Unit, executed a Criminal Code search Warrant where they located the suspect and took him into custody.
It is further alleged that:
- at the time of the search, officers recovered items of evidentiary value related to the investigation
Jonathan Wilmott, 39, of Toronto, was charged with:
- Break and Enter Commit
- Robbery
- Disguise With Intent
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under
He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, Room 301.
