Panchkula: Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Sh Gianchand Gupta said that Panchkula has got a distinct identity at the National level with the setting up of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). He said that the building of NIFT is first- of-its-kind in the country wherein all necessary facilities are being provided to the students.
Sh Gupta was speaking as a Chief Guest at the convocation ceremony of the first batch of Master of Fashion Management course at NIFT campus in Sector-23, here today.
On this occasion, Sh Gupta conferred degrees to 33 students of Master of Fashion Management course for the session 2020-22. He said that most of the 33 graduating students have already been selected in top MNCs in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Gurugram, Hyderabad and Pune while some students have opted to start their own ventures.
While congratulating the graduating students, Sh Gupta said that he is quite confident that they will touch new heights in future and bring laurels to their institution. He said that 20 per cent seats in this institute have been reserved for the students of Haryana domicile. This would help the students of the State who aspire to make their career in the field of fashion technology. Apart from this, financial assistance is given to the students of economically weaker sections through various scholarships. He said that as students from different states of the country come to take education in this institute, a hostel facility to accommodate maximum students should be made in the campus.
Sh Gupta said that today NIFT Panchkula is considered as the second best institute after Delhi. The kind of education and facilities which are being provided to the students, the day is not far when this institute will rank first in the country. He recalled that three years ago, the classes of NIFT were started in Government Polytechnic College, Sector-26. Now, after the inauguration of the building by Haryana Chief Minister, Sh Manohar Lal and Union Textiles Minister, Sh Piyush Goyal on July 12, 2022, regular classes have been started in this institute.
On this occasion, Sh Gupta also felicitated the meritorious students of the institute. Sohail Kalshi was awarded the student of the year title. Felicitated students were awarded with medals, certificates and a check of Rs 11,000 each.
Director General, NIFT, Sh Santanu congratulated the graduating batch and said that the Haryana Government has given its best support in setting up NIFT at Panchkula. He said that Panchkula NIFT is the 17th campus of the country. A proposal has been prepared to expand the hostel building and provide accommodation facilities to the faculty and staff of the Institute, he added.
Director, NIFT Panchkula Prof. Dr. Amandeep Singh Grover said that NIFT Panchkula has two postgraduate courses, Master of Design Space and Master of Fashion Management and four undergraduate design courses (BDS in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design and Fashion Technology). Students from all over the country are given admission in these courses every year and 20 percent seats are reserved for the domicile students of Haryana state.
Among those present on this occasion included Associate Prof., NIFT Panchkula. Dr. Vishu Arora, Assistant Prof. Shri Deep Sagar Verma, Joint Director Deepak Rana, BJP District Vice President Umesh Sood, Councilor Sonia Sood, students, faculty members and staff of the Institute.
