Karandeep-Canada: The Peel Regional Police have concluded their annual R.I.D.E. (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign, which ran from November 2024 to January 2025. The initiative, aimed at keeping roadways safe and deterring impaired driving, resulted in more than 12,000 vehicles being checked and hundreds of charges laid.
Throughout the campaign, officers worked around the clock, focusing on detecting and removing impaired drivers from the roads. The strategy involved R.I.D.E. checkpoints, proactive traffic stops, and responding to public tips about impaired driving.
Here is a breakdown of the key statistics from the 2024-2025 campaign:
- 12,094 vehicles investigated
- 104 total persons charged
- 42 charges for Operation While Impaired by Alcohol
- 82 charges for Blood Alcohol Concentration over the legal limit
- 5 charges for refusal or failure to provide a breath sample
- 2 charges for Operation While Impaired by Drugs
- 242 Highway Traffic Act charges
- 848 Highway Traffic Act cautions
- 3,618 Approved Screening Device (ASD) tests administered
In addition to impaired driving-related offenses, one firearm was seized during a R.I.D.E. traffic stop.
Peel Regional Police continue to stress the importance of safe driving and urge motorists to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Drivers are reminded that all young, novice, and commercial drivers must maintain a zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs while behind the wheel.
