Karandeep- Ottawa(Ontario) – Nov 20, 2024 : Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, yesterday on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two leaders discussed global geopolitical challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to working together with the European Union, the United States, and other international allies to promote global security and stability. They also expressed strong, continued support for Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Trudeau and President von der Leyen highlighted the strong relationship between Canada and the EU. They agreed to focus on shared goals, including improving affordability, creating more opportunities for people on both sides of the Atlantic, boosting trade, and enhancing economic security. The leaders agreed to keep in close contact moving forward, particularly as Canada prepares for its upcoming G7 Presidency.
