Karandeep- Canada - November 15, 2024 – Peel Regional Police are warning the public about an ongoing advance fee scam targeting victims in the Greater Toronto Area. The scam involves the fraudulent sale of music concert and sporting event tickets, with the perpetrator posing as a legitimate seller.
The investigation, which began in February 2024, was launched after multiple reports emerged alleging that a suspect sold counterfeit tickets to victims, who believed they were purchasing from trusted, reputable ticket vendors. The fraud led to financial losses exceeding $38,000. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for 37-year-old Jaspal Singh Thiara of Toronto. Thiara faces charges of Fraud Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply. Notably, Thiara is already on judicial release for similar offenses.
Given the heightened demand for concert and event tickets in the GTA this week, police believe Thiara may still be attempting to defraud additional victims. Investigators are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to come forward.
Authorities continue to warn the public to remain vigilant when purchasing tickets online, especially from unfamiliar sources.
