CHANDIGARH: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda said today that the Punjabi community has an important contribution in the development of the country and the state. He was speaking at the Punjabi Milan function organised on the occasion of the inauguration of the basement and ground floor of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Punjabi Bhawan in Panchkula on Sunday.

The programme was organised by Ravindra Rawal, the head of Punjabi Ekta Manch and the governing body. Deepender Hooda said that he congratulates Punjabi Ekta Manch and the entire Punjabi community for organising such a grand event. He also congratulated Punjabi Ekta Manch for building a grand building for the entire Punjabi community including others in Panchkula.

Hooda said that the Punjabi community had to suffer a lot at the time of independence. There is no other example in history of the contribution made by Haryana in taking India to great heights through hard work and honesty. Rohtak city has the largest population of Punjabi community except Delhi.

When Bhupinder Hooda won from the Rohtak parliamentary constituency against Chaudhary Devi Lal in 1991, the biggest support was received from the Rohtak assembly constituency and the Punjabi community was maximum in it. Whatever responsibility we had got earlier or whatever responsibility we will take in the future, I think that as much as possible, we will do it for the Punjabi community.

Chief patron of Punjabi Ekta Manch and former Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra said that the Punjabi community had come to India because of love for the country. He said that he is very thankful to Chaudhary Bhupinder Singh Hooda for giving the status of second class language to Punjabi language during his tenure. Former speaker Ashok Arora said that after being displaced, the Punjabi community forgot the tragedy and moved forward. Where he set an example of patriotism, he made the biggest contribution in the progress of Haryana.

Today 36 fraternities of the state are living together like they used to live before. MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra said that the displaced Punjabi community came here and did not ask for any reservation or special status for jobs.
