Chandigarh: Aligned with World Heritage Day (April 18) observance, the Kalka-Shimla Railway (KSR) Society under aegis of Ambala- Kalka Division organized a cycle rally in collaboration with the local IEC University on Sunday wherein nearly 100 cyclists from Cycleworx Sports Club participated. The objective of organizing this rally under the leadership of railway authorities was to make the youth aware of the importance of World Heritage Day and the historical identity of Kalka Shimla Railway.
The cyclists were flagged off by KSR’s Deputy Director Aditya Sharma from Kalka railway station to Ghumman railway station situated at nearly 3000 feet. Rajesh Sharma, Chief Office Superintendent (Heritage), Ambala Division, who has been serving for almost 14 years at KSR Heritage welcomed all the cyclists and gave detailed information about nearly 120 old British Raj legacy.
In his briefing, Sharma called upon all the youth to keep contributing in the conservation of 40 UNESCO Heritage including KSR of their country so that the whole world would be admiring them in the near future. On this occasion, Aditya Sharma also apprised the cyclists about the British working style on the movement of trains on KSR section.
At the end, cyclists were felicitated with medals and certificates by the Akhilesh Mishra, Principal Chief Design Engineer, RCF Kapurthala, Aditya Sharma, Rajesh Sharma and the Registrar of the University. Vikrant Sharma, founder, Cycleworx Sports Club, expressed his gratitude for providing these cherished memories to the cyclists.
