Shimla: Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni will be celebrating its 38th Foundation on 1st December. This year the celebration will comprise lectures from eminent personalities, alumni interaction with students, sports and cultural activities. Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Horticulture Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. KT Parthiban, Dean, Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam will be the Guest of Honour. Dr. Kumar will deliver a talk on ‘New Avenues of Horticulture and Entrepreneurship Opportunities’ while Dr. Parthiban’s lecture will focus on the ‘Status and Development of Value Chain in Industrial Agroforestry’.
Besides, eminent alumni of the university have also been invited to the celebrations. As part of the foundation day celebrations, a workshop on ‘Strengthening of Alumni Network: Awareness campaign on Entrepreneurship Opportunity and Job availabilities in Forestry and Horticulture sector’ will also be held for the students. Several sports like cricket and volleyball matches and rural games will also be organized.
The various achievements of the university in the past year will be highlighted at the event. The proceeding will be live streamed on the official Facebook page and Youtube channel of the university. Retired scientists and staff, members of the Senate, Board of Management, Academic, Extension and Research Councils, employees and students of the university will also participate in the event.
The University was established on 1st December 1985 to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines. Though formally established in 1985, the university has its roots in the College of Agriculture, Solan, which started functioning in 1962. Since its inception, the university has had a long history of excellence in education, research and extension. The combined efforts of its scientists, staff and students have brought great laurels to Himachal Pradesh in Horticulture and Forestry.
